The opening keynote speaker at this year’s Kent 2020 Vision LIVE was living proof of the benefits of exhibiting and attending local business-to-business events.
As James Averdieck, founder of the Gü chocolate pudding brand, shared his entrepreneurial journey with the audience, he highlighted the important role that a similar local business event played in turning his vision into a reality.
Although the initial idea for Gü was formed in a Belgian patisserie, it remained just an idea until a chance meeting with his future business partner, Mordechai Wosner, at a local business event: “Motty was looking to fill some space on his food production line which supplied cake products to the airline trade and I needed someone to help with the production of the puddings if my idea was ever going to become a reality – we were a perfect fit. I have discovered that a defining feature of entrepreneurship is to take action. It’s all very well to have a great idea, but actually doing something about it is vital!”
James also told the Kent 2020 Vision LIVE audience that no-one has an easy ride in business. “An entrepreneur needs three things – curiosity, optimism and resilience. I have yet to meet anyone who makes money easily. You need to be able to take the knocks and you need to have belief that you will succeed.”
“The moral of my story really is to open up to people at networking events, to talk and to network.” The result of doing this led to James and Motty creating what has now become a £40m business. Could that idea that you keep turning over in your head be the next success story?
