Budding entrepreneurs and enlightened marketers will find a wealth of valuable insights at two great events taking place in Kent month…
After five years of erratic trading conditions, almost every economic indicator now shows that the UK recovery is in full swing. Exciting opportunities are emerging right across Kent’s dynamic business community, as companies ramp up their marketing activities, budgets increase and budding entrepreneurs recognise the perfect time to start a new business.
This positive return to growth is strongly supported by two free events taking place on Wednesday 22nd October near Maidstone, organised by BSK-Direct and Revolution Events to deliver expert advice and new insights into current business and marketing challenges.
Kent 2020 Vision Marketing LIVE presents an opportunity for forward-thinking marketers to stay up to date with the latest ideas and best practice, while Kent 2020 Vision Start-Up LIVE provides valuable advice and support for new businesses.
Together, the two events present a unique one-stop-shop for Kent businesses and ambitious entrepreneurs to access fresh thinking on everything from improving marketing ROI, building brands and leveraging social media – to starting, funding and growing new ventures.
As the economy gathers momentum and the volume of marketing messages increases, building trustworthy brands through honest communications will rapidly become a key differentiator, according to the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
New research conducted jointly by CIM and YouGov has shown that this is especially true when using social media and other digital channels, where the surge of new activity can make it very tempting to use underhand tactics in a bid to stand out from the crowd or gain competitive advantage. Recent examples of poor judgement would include Belkin’s placement of fake product reviews on Amazon and dating network OKCupid’s deliberate mismatching of incompatible couples. Even Facebook itself has faced intense criticism for its experiments with manipulating its users’ moods.
Whilst deliberately misleading customers may sometimes appear to work in the short term, an increasingly media-savvy audience is rarely fooled for long and the damage inflicted by getting caught by customers or ‘outed’ by the press can be long-lasting or even catastrophic.
With growing consumer pressure for companies that are greener, more ethical and more socially responsible, an irreversible shift towards greater honesty and transparency is taking place. Businesses that respond positively to this trend – by taking the time to establish trust and strong brand values – will find the odds stacked heavily in their favour when launching new offerings, building loyalty and competing for market share.
You can hear more about this important area on Wednesday 22nd October, when CIM’s Chief Executive, Anne Godfrey, presents a fascinating morning keynote on the key issues for marketers in a recovering economy.
Building an Honest Business
New start-ups are a vital part of the economic recovery – with record numbers of the population now running their own businesses – so it is in the interests of the whole business community for these new ventures to get off the ground as quickly and successfully as possible.
Which is why Kent 2020 Vision Start-Up LIVE fulfils such an important role: providing a range of independent advice and support for entrepreneurs and new business owners through a one-day programme of special seminars, practical workshops and a focused exhibition – all under one roof at one time.
This year’s opening keynote for both events will be presented by Kevin Byrne, one of the South East’s leading entrepreneurs and founder of Checkatrade.com, the independent online service for sourcing reliable tradespeople. Having grown his own business from scratch to a £11m company employing 200 staff, Kevin is a huge advocate for the UK’s SME sector and a shining example of developing a successful brand founded on innovation and consumer trust.
Kent 2020 Vision Start-Up LIVE and Kent 2020 Vision Marketing LIVE are brought to you by BSK-Direct in association with The Chartered Institute of Marketing (South East), Kent County Council, KM Group and the Kent Event Centre, with expert marketing support from Zoodikers Consulting and Lavender Blue Media.
